Among the fruit vegetables produced in Japanese agriculture, strawberry production in particular is attracting attention. According to data for 2022, the national strawberry harvest was 161kt, with the cultivated area reaching 4.85kha. These figures also show that strawberry production is widespread throughout the country. In terms of shipping volume, Tochigi has been found to be the largest, and regional characteristics can also be seen. Past trends show that strawberry production volume and cultivated area have been increasing, suggesting that a production system that meets demand is being established. Tochigi’s presence is particularly notable, suggesting that there is production competition between regions. These characteristics show that strawberry production in Japan is continuing to grow steadily and is having a major impact on local economies.
