Abstract
Total income from cultivated crops in Japan’s agriculture reached 5.48 trillion yen nationwide in 2022. This shows that agriculture occupies an important position in Japan’s economy. Total income from crops has been growing steadily due to technological innovation and improved productivity in agriculture. In addition, because of differences in climatic conditions and land use in different regions, total income from cultivated crops also tends to vary from region to region. In addition, government agricultural policies and changes in the international trade environment are also affecting agricultural income. Taking these factors into consideration, it is clear that Japanese agriculture is striving for sustainable growth while adapting to change.
Cultivation meter income
Total income from cultivated crops in Japanese agriculture has fluctuated between 1955 and 2022. In 1994, the nation recorded income of 8.68 trillion yen, which has declined in the decades since and is now at just 63.1% of its peak. This trend is thought to be due to structural changes in agriculture, the progress of urbanization, and changes in domestic and international economic conditions. Changes in agricultural policies and intensifying international competition are also having an impact, and Japanese agriculture is striving to achieve sustainable development while responding to these challenges.

Cultivation income (by prefecture)
Total income from cultivated crops in Japanese agriculture has fluctuated between 1960 and 2022. In 1994, Hokkaido achieved revenues of 726 billion yen, which have declined in the decades since and are now at 74.2% of their peak. Due to Hokkaido’s vast land area and harsh climate, agriculture in the prefecture is active in a wide variety of fields, including livestock farming and grain cultivation. On the other hand, social changes such as population decline and population migration to cities are also having an impact. Thanks to agricultural policy reforms and technological innovation, agriculture in Hokkaido is aiming to grow again.

Total income from cultivated crops in Japan’s agriculture will be 5.49 trillion yen in 2022. Hokkaido had the highest amount at 538 billion yen, while the average was 117 billion yen. This data shows that Hokkaido occupies an important position in Japanese agriculture. Additionally, the overall income figure of 5.49 trillion yen indicates that agriculture still plays a large role in Japan’s economy. Agriculture varies by region, with large-scale farming on vast tracts of land like Hokkaido and small-scale family-run farms in other areas. Factors such as changes in agricultural policies and international trade also affect incomes from crops.
