Tropical fruit production is diverse, with the major fruits including bananas, mangoes, pineapples, papayas and coconuts. The main banana producing countries are India and China, while the main mango producing countries are India, Thailand and Indonesia. The Philippines, Thailand and Costa Rica are the leading producers of pineapples, while India and Brazil lead the way in papaya production. These fruits prefer warm and humid climates and are primarily grown in tropical and subtropical regions. Exports are also plentiful, so prompt processing and transportation after harvest is important to maintain quality. There is a need for sustainable cultivation and adaptation to climate change.
