In the United States, California is the largest producer of fruit and nut acreage annually, particularly nuts (almonds, walnuts, pistachios) and fruits (oranges, lemons, and grapes). The total fruit area is about 5 million acres, and nuts about 2.5 million acres. Almonds have the largest planted acreage of any nut, with approximately 1.2 million acres grown. These crops are on the rise due to domestic and international demand.
