The average price per ton of vegetables in the United States varies by vegetable type and market conditions. For example, prices for staple vegetables such as tomatoes and lettuce range from about $400 to $800 per tonne. Prices are affected by harvests, weather, supply chain conditions and consumer demand, and can be higher in years of unstable harvests or increased transportation costs. Additionally, organically grown or specialty varieties of vegetables tend to be more expensive than the general market price. The market supply and demand balance determines the price.
