There are characteristics regarding agricultural production in Japan depending on individual farms and the scale of rice cultivation. Small, individual farms have limited production volumes and are vulnerable to weather and market fluctuations. On the other hand, large-scale individual farms can take advantage of economies of scale and increase production by introducing mechanization and efficient cultivation techniques. In terms of rice farm size, small-scale farms tend to use land less efficiently and produce less, while large-scale farms have large areas of cultivated land and can increase production by using high-yielding varieties and technologies.
