Profits in Japanese agriculture vary greatly depending on individual farms and regions. Farms that operate on a large scale or grow high-value crops (such as fruits, vegetables, and flowers) tend to earn high profits, while small-scale operations and farms that mainly grow rice tend to earn low profits. By region, large-scale agricultural areas such as Hokkaido and Kyushu are able to easily achieve high profits, while in Tohoku and mountainous areas, profits are low and management is often difficult. Support measures tailored to regional characteristics and the introduction of new technologies are essential to improving profits.
