Agriculture in Japan has its own characteristics in each prefecture. For example, Hokkaido has many large farms and particularly extensive pasture land. On the other hand, in the Tohoku region, such as Iwate and Aomori prefectures, individual farming is the norm, and rice farming is the main industry. In the Kanto region, field farming can be seen near cities, and vegetable and flower production is a characteristic of the region. In terms of field crops, Hokkaido and Kyushu have vast farmland where large-scale agriculture is carried out, while in urban areas such as Tokyo and Osaka, small-scale urban agriculture is progressing, making use of advanced technologies.
