Japan’s agricultural production volume varies depending on the region and scale of operations. Hokkaido makes use of its vast farmland to produce large amounts of rice, dairy products, and field crops. On the other hand, individual farms in the Tohoku region focus on rice, and rice from Akita and Niigata prefectures in particular is known for its high quality. Suburban agriculture is thriving in the Kanto region, with vegetable and fruit production standing out. In the Kyushu region, field farming is large-scale, and sweet potatoes and tea are produced in large quantities. In urban areas, agricultural products are produced on a small scale but with high added value.
