Japan’s agricultural production volume varies depending on the region and scale of operations. In Hokkaido, large-scale field farming using vast farmland is the norm, and the region produces large amounts of wheat, potatoes, sugar beets, and other crops. Individual farms in the Tohoku region are mainly focused on rice cultivation, with Niigata and Akita rice being famous for its high quality. Suburban agriculture is thriving in the Kanto region, with vegetable and fruit production standing out. Large-scale field farming is carried out in Kyushu, and sweet potatoes and tea are produced in large quantities. In urban areas, agricultural products with high added value are produced on a small scale.
