In Japan, agricultural production volumes tend to differ between corporate and privately run farms. The number of large-scale corporate farms is increasing, and mechanization and efficiency are progressing. As a result, there are now many rice farms of a certain size or larger, and productivity is increasing. On the other hand, privately owned farms tend to be smaller, use traditional farming methods and produce limited amounts. The impact of agricultural policies and the ageing of rural areas are influencing this trend.
