Assets in Japanese agriculture differ between corporate and individual businesses. Corporate management owns large farmland and advanced agricultural machinery, which allows for efficient production. In addition, corporations tend to be proactive in capital investment and technological innovation, and are therefore more profitable. Looking at rice cultivation scale, large-scale farms have made progress in mechanization and efficiency and are highly productive. Smallholder farmers, on the other hand, have limited assets and often produce using traditional methods.
