Japan’s livestock statistics on pigs include data on the number of pigs raised, the number of pigs shipped, breeding conditions by region, pork production and consumption, the number of pig farms, and the scale of operations. The main production areas are in the Kyushu region, particularly Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures. Domestic pork consumption remains stable and high, and a lot of imported pork is also in circulation. The scale of farms is increasing, and efforts are being made to improve production efficiency. These statistical data are published regularly by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
