Japan’s chicken livestock statistics include data on the number of chickens raised, egg production, the ratio of broilers (meat chickens) to layers (egg chickens), rearing conditions by region, number of farms, and scale of operations. The main production areas are Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures, with broiler production being particularly popular. Domestic egg consumption is high, and the country also has a high rate of self-sufficiency in eggs. Animal breeding farms are becoming larger in scale, and efforts are being made to improve production efficiency. These statistical data are published regularly by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
