Income from agricultural production in Japan

Agricultural income tends to be low compared to other industries, and aging and a lack of successors are serious problems. Because there are many small-scale farmers, management efficiency is low and profitability tends to decline. However, in recent years, some farmers have seen their incomes improve through initiatives such as branding agricultural products, direct sales, and tourism agriculture. In addition, efforts are being made to improve efficiency through the introduction of ICT and government support measures are also being implemented, but the overall situation remains severe.
