Statistical data on livestock farming in Japan includes the number of livestock raised, the number of birds, distribution by region, shipping volume, production volume, consumption volume, number of farms, and scale of operations. The main livestock products include beef cattle, dairy cattle, pigs, and chickens, with each region having different specialties. Hokkaido is a major producer of dairy cattle, Kyushu is a major producer of beef cattle and pigs, and Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures are major producers of broilers. Domestic consumption is generally high, and many imported products are also in circulation. These statistics are published regularly by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
