World production and import/export rankings for potatoes and sweet potatoes

Potatoes are an important crop worldwide, with China and India being the largest producers. Russia, Ukraine and the United States are also among the major producers. Annual production has reached approximately 370 million tonnes, and it is considered important from the perspective of food security due to its versatility and high nutritional value. Potatoes are easily adaptable to different climatic conditions and can be grown in many regions. In recent years, research has been ongoing to strengthen resilience to climate change.
