Abstract
Looking at the trends and characteristics of global wheat exports and imports, Russia was the largest shipping country with an export volume of 28.4 Mt in 2021. This trend is due to Russia having abundant agricultural resources and good productivity. However, other countries are also heavily involved in wheat exports and imports, with the major players being the United States, Canada, Australia, and Ukraine. These countries are also known for their abundant wheat production and exports. Although the volume of imports and exports fluctuates from year to year due to factors such as increasing demand and climate change, wheat is an important grain from a global perspective and is essential for food security. Therefore, countries are working to improve productivity, ensure quality, and strengthen competitiveness in the international market.
Wheat exports (worldwide)
In global wheat exports and imports, the United States’ share has declined to 59.5% since its peak in 1981 with exports of 45.6 Mt. This trend is due to structural changes in global agriculture and the increased competitiveness of other countries. In particular, the rise of emerging wheat-producing countries such as Russia and Ukraine is noticeable. These countries are suitable for wheat production in terms of land use and climatic conditions, and have increased their export volumes through improved productivity and the introduction of agricultural technologies. On the other hand, the decline in U.S. wheat exports must be considered not only due to fluctuations in production and demand, but also the impact of trade policies and international relations. In addition, factors such as food security and the effects of climate change also affect the wheat market. In the future, the growth of agricultural production in emerging countries and their focus on sustainability may bring about further changes in wheat export and import patterns.

Wheat exports (latest year, countries around the world)
Regarding wheat exports and imports in global agriculture, based on data for 2021, Russia is the largest shipping country with an export volume of 28.4 Mt. The average export volume is 1.46 Mt, and the total export volume reaches 261 Mt. A feature visible from this data is that Russia is a major exporter of wheat. Russia plays an important role in the wheat market due to its abundant agricultural resources and productivity. On the other hand, there are other major producing and exporting countries, and wheat exports and imports are diversified. Although the import and export volume fluctuates from year to year due to factors such as changes in demand and climatic conditions, wheat is a globally important grain and is essential for food security. Therefore, countries are working to improve productivity, ensure quality, and strengthen competitiveness in the international market. In the future, the global wheat market is expected to continue to change, and sustainable agricultural production and international cooperation will be important issues.

Wheat exports (continental)
Data on wheat exports and imports dating back to 1961 shows that Europe is the largest exporter with 150Mt of exports. This current maximum suggests that Europe has been the major wheat shipping destination for many years. This is because Europe has rich agricultural areas and favorable climatic conditions for wheat cultivation. The wheat industry in this region has been historically important and plays a central role in trade with other regions. However, recent trends show that other regions are also increasing their wheat production and exports. In particular, countries such as Russia and Ukraine are increasing their wheat production and becoming more competitive in the international market. Such changes may change the regional dynamics of the global wheat market. In the future, climate change, economic factors, and other factors are expected to have an impact and bring about further changes in wheat export and import patterns.

Wheat exports (latest year, continental)
Wheat export volume data for 2021 shows that Europe is the largest with exports of 137Mt. This figure is equivalent to about half of the average global export volume, suggesting that Europe is the leading wheat exporting region. Europe is a rich agricultural region with suitable climatic conditions and land for growing wheat. Therefore, it has been a major wheat producing region for many years and has played an important role in the international market. However, other regions are also growing in wheat production and export. In particular, countries such as Russia and Ukraine have increased their wheat production and become more competitive in the international market. This trend indicates a change in the dynamics between regions in the global wheat market. Factors such as changing demand and the impact of climatic conditions also play a role in wheat imports and exports, which are expected to cause market fluctuations. In the future, sustainable agricultural production and international cooperation are expected to play an important role in ensuring the stability of the wheat market.
