Looking at data for naked barley agriculture in Japan for 2022, we can see that the nationwide harvest was 17kt and the cultivated area was 5.87kha. In addition, the yield per 10a in Saga Prefecture is 414kg. Judging from these figures, it is likely that naked barley production is carried out in a relatively limited area, with Saga Prefecture being one of the centers. In addition, because the yield per 10 ares is relatively high, it is thought that production is dominated in areas with favorable production techniques and environmental conditions. Furthermore, because the area cultivated nationwide is relatively small, naked barley is likely produced in specific regions and by specific farms, and is more likely to be a regional specialty rather than a large-scale commercial product.
