Abstract
Avocado production has attracted global attention, and the latest data for 2022 showed that Mexico is the largest producer. Mexico’s production reached 2.53 Mt, far exceeding other countries. Meanwhile, other major producing countries are also steadily expanding production to meet the increasing demand for avocados. The background to this increase in demand is the growing health consciousness and changes in global food culture. In addition, avocados are used in a variety of dishes, so their demand is diverse. This has led avocado producing countries to expand their cultivation area in response to market demands. In addition, factors such as climate change and advances in agricultural technology must be taken into account. These factors are intricately intertwined in the increase in avocado production. As demand is expected to continue to grow, producing countries are required to explore sustainable production methods and respond flexibly to market changes.
Avocado production (worldwide)
Avocado production has been steadily increasing over the past decades. Looking at data from 1961 to 2022, production has grown rapidly, with Mexico recording a production of 2.53 Mt in 2022, the highest ever. In particular, avocado production has expanded rapidly in Mexico, which plays a leading role in the global avocado market. This growth is remarkable, as it has reached 100% compared to its peak. Meanwhile, other producing countries are also on the rise, and avocados are becoming widely cultivated around the world. This rapid increase is influenced by growing health consciousness and changes in global food culture. Demand for avocados is increasing due to their high nutritional value and use in a variety of dishes. In addition, climatic conditions and advances in agricultural technology are also factors in the increase in production. However, efforts toward sustainable production are also necessary, and producers and related industries need to expand production while taking into account environmental considerations and social responsibility.

The maximum is the latest one, 2.53Mt of Mexico
Avocado production (latest year, worldwide)
Avocado production has expanded rapidly in recent years, reaching 8.97 Mt worldwide in the latest data for 2022. Of these, Mexico accounts for the largest share with 2.53 Mt. This rapid increase is largely due to increased demand due to growing health consciousness and changes in global food culture. Demand for avocados is expanding, especially in developed countries, due to their high nutritional value and use in a variety of dishes. To meet this demand, other major producing countries are also increasing production. However, there are concerns about the environmental impact and social aspects of expanding production, and efforts toward sustainable production are being called for. Advances in agricultural technology and changes in climatic conditions are also affecting production, and producers are managing production while taking these factors into account. The avocado market is expected to continue to grow, but industry-wide efforts are essential to maintain that growth in a sustainable manner.

Avocado production (continent)
Avocado production has increased significantly in recent years, with North America recording the highest overall production of 3.8 Mt in 2022 data. This figure is the highest ever, indicating that demand for avocados is expanding rapidly. North American production expansion is mainly centered on Mexico, which has emerged as the global avocado production leader. Avocados have become popular among consumers due to their increasing health consciousness and use in a variety of dishes, which has led to increased demand. On the other hand, the expansion of production is also accompanied by sustainability concerns. Avocado cultivation requires a lot of water, and there are concerns about the impact on water resources in production areas. In addition, social and environmental aspects such as the use of pesticides and working conditions of producers are also attracting attention. To address these challenges, there is a demand for sustainable avocado cultivation and the establishment of a supply chain. As demand for avocados is expected to continue to expand, producers and related industries will need to continue their efforts to meet demand while addressing these challenges.

Avocado production (latest year, continent)
Avocado production has grown rapidly in recent years, reaching 8.98 Mt overall in the latest data for 2022. Of this, North America accounts for the largest share with 3.8 Mt. Avocados are becoming increasingly popular worldwide, and demand for them is steadily expanding. The main source of demand is due to growing health consciousness and diversifying food culture. Avocado production is increasing in North America, especially in Mexico. However, this rapid increase in production is also accompanied by environmental impacts and social concerns. Avocado cultivation requires a lot of water, which is increasing pressure on water resources in producing regions. Sustainability issues, such as the use of pesticides and working conditions for producers, have also been raised. Sustainable agricultural practices and effective management are essential to address these challenges. Demand for avocados is expected to continue to increase, but an industry-wide effort is needed to maintain that growth in a sustainable manner.
