The amount to yield herbs in each country around the world

Total

Abstract

In recent years, global herb production has seen notable growth, with certain countries emerging as major producers due to favorable climates, increased demand for culinary, medicinal, and industrial uses, and agricultural improvements. Traditionally, European countries like Italy and Spain have led herb production, focusing on quality for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. However, Latin American nations, particularly Mexico, have risen to prominence, with Mexico achieving the highest production of 15.6 tons per hectare in 2022. This is due to ideal growing conditions, investment in modern agricultural techniques, and a strong export market. The surge in production reflects global consumer trends favoring organic and natural products, contributing to a broader shift towards sustainable agriculture and innovative farming practices worldwide.

Herb production (around the world)

Since 1961, global herb yields have steadily increased due to advancements in agricultural practices, enhanced crop varieties, and rising demand for herbs in culinary, medicinal, and cosmetic industries. Mexico, with its favorable climate and investment in high-yield farming techniques, has consistently led in herb production. The country reached a peak yield of 17.5 tons per hectare in 2017, showcasing its high efficiency and productivity in this sector. As of 2022, Mexico’s yield stands at 89.2% of this peak, indicating slight declines possibly due to resource limitations or environmental factors. The overall trend highlights a global focus on sustainable practices and yield optimization, responding to both consumer demand for natural products and the need for resilient agriculture.
