Abstract
China accounts for the largest amount of carrot and turnip imports in global agriculture in 2021, at 33.1 megatons. Looking at the trends so far, China is an active importer and has established itself as a major player in agriculture. Meanwhile, other countries are also importing agricultural products in response to demand, intensifying competition in the global market. This trend is influenced by increasing demand due to population growth and changing dietary habits, and sustainable agricultural production and international trade are becoming increasingly important. In addition, differences in climatic conditions and agricultural policies in each region affect import volumes, calling for diversification of supply sources in the international market. In the future, the market may fluctuate due to factors such as climate change and changes in trade policies, so agricultural-related businesses need to keep a close eye on market trends and develop appropriate strategies.
Carrot and turnip import volumes (worldwide)
Considering the import volume data for carrots and turnips from 1961 to 2021, China’s imports show a notable increase. China achieved an astounding 33.1 megatons in 2021, which represents a 100% increase compared to the peak. This increase reflects the growing demand for high-quality agricultural products due to changes in eating habits along with China’s economic growth. Meanwhile, other countries are also importing in response to demand, intensifying competition in the global market. Looking at the trends to date, population growth and increasing urbanization are driving demand. Factors such as climate change and natural disasters can also have an impact, bringing instability to supply. Under these circumstances, agricultural producing countries are seeking policies to promote sustainable production and international trade. Going forward, changes in demand and policy trends in major importing countries, including China, will have a significant impact on the market.

Carrot and turnip imports (latest year, countries around the world)
China tops the world’s agricultural import volume of carrots and turnips with an overwhelming figure of 33.1 megatons in 2021. This is significantly higher than the world average import volume of 1.23 megatons. The total amount of agricultural product imports in the world reaches 227 megatons, of which carrots and turnips account for a certain proportion. Looking at the trends so far, China’s imports have been increasing rapidly, suggesting that China’s economic growth is accompanied by changes in eating habits and an increasing demand for high-quality agricultural products. On the other hand, other countries are also importing, and competition in the global market is intensifying. Population growth and urbanization are contributing to the expansion of demand, and these factors will continue to promote the increase in imports. Agricultural producing countries need to develop strategies to meet demand by seeking sustainable production and promoting international trade. In the future, changes in demand and agricultural policy trends in major importing countries, including China, are expected to have a significant impact on the market.
