In Japanese agriculture, bok choy, a leafy vegetable, is attracting attention. According to data for 2022, the national bok choy harvest was 40.1kt, with the cultivated area reaching a maximum of 2.05kha. The largest shipping volume was in Ibaraki Prefecture, at 10.1kt. These figures show that bok choy is produced all over Japan, with Ibaraki Prefecture accounting for the majority of production. On the other hand, judging from the relationship between harvest volume and cultivated area, it is believed that production is relatively efficient. Bok choy is highly nutritious and used in many dishes, so demand is stable. While production and shipping volumes are expected to continue to increase, it is important that producers adopt sustainable cultivation methods.
