Total area to harvest winter carrots and production amount in Japan

Production (vegetables)

Abstract

In Japan’s winter carrot agriculture, based on data for 2022, the harvest volume by prefecture was up to 246kt, the planted area was up to 7.43kha, and the shipping volume was up to 83.5kt. Based on past trends, winter carrot cultivation varies by region, with urban areas tending to have an advantage, particularly in terms of harvest and shipping volume. In addition, winter carrots are suited to cool climates, and it is thought that they are widely produced in cold regions such as Hokkaido and the Tohoku region. It can be seen that the majority of shipments are supplied from the Kanto region, including Chiba. Furthermore, due to technological innovations in agriculture and changes in demand, there is a possibility that the cultivation area and production volume of winter carrots will continue to change in the future.

Winter carrot harvest yield (main data).

Analysis of Japanese agricultural data on winter carrot yields from 1973 to 2022 shows that a harvest of 314 kt was recorded in prefectures in 1996, which was the highest overall. However, current harvest volumes in prefectures and prefectures are only 78.2% of their peak levels. This trend suggests that advances in winter carrot cultivation techniques and breeding have been made over the past few decades, making efficient production possible. In addition, the decline in harvest volumes compared to peak periods in prefectures and prefectures may be due to changes in agricultural policies, fluctuations in market demand, and the effects of climatic conditions. In the future, more sustainable cultivation methods and the development of varieties that meet demand will be required.

Winter carrot harvest volume (by prefecture).

Analyzing root vegetable harvest data for Japan’s agriculture by prefecture in 2022, the highest overall harvest volume was 90.2kt in Chiba Prefecture, which is the current maximum value. This data shows that Chiba Prefecture has an advantage in root vegetable production. Possible reasons for this advantage include Chiba Prefecture’s geographical conditions, development of agricultural technology, and access to markets. On the other hand, production volumes in other prefectures are relatively low, suggesting that there are regional production differences. A recent trend has been regional differences in root vegetable production, with some regions emerging as major producers. It will also be taken into account that factors such as changes in demand and climatic conditions may be affecting root vegetable production. In the future, it will be important to adopt sustainable production methods and cultivate varieties that meet demand.

Area planted with winter carrots (main data).

An analysis of agricultural data from 1973 to 2022 in Japan shows that the area planted with winter carrots was the largest in the country, recorded in 1973 at 12 kha. However, the current cultivated area nationwide is only 61.9% of its peak level. Based on this trend, it becomes clear that the area cultivated with winter carrots has been decreasing over the past few decades. This is thought to be due to structural changes in agriculture, changes in economic conditions, and changes in consumer preferences. There may also be a shift to other crops in some areas. It is also possible that a decrease in demand for winter carrots and a decline in production efficiency are contributing factors. In the future, attention will be focused on how the area planted with winter carrots will change due to changes in demand and the promotion of sustainable agriculture.

Area cultivated with winter carrots (by prefecture).

Based on agricultural data for Japan in 2022, it is clear that the largest area planted to root vegetables overall is in Chiba Prefecture at 2.3kha, which is the current maximum value. Considering the characteristics and trends so far, it appears that root vegetable cultivation tends to vary from region to region. Chiba Prefecture has the largest total cultivated area, indicating that the region is one of the major producing areas for root vegetables. This advantage is thought to be due to Chiba Prefecture’s geographical conditions, advances in agricultural technology, and access to markets. On the other hand, the cultivated area in other prefectures is relatively low, suggesting that there are regional production differences. This may be due to factors such as climatic conditions and local agricultural policies. In the future, it will be necessary to promote the spread of sustainable cultivation methods and adjust production to meet changes in demand.

Shipping volume of winter carrots.

According to Japan’s agricultural data for 2022, the largest overall shipment volume of winter carrots was in Chiba Prefecture at 83.5kt, with an average of 4.92kt and a total of 216kt. Considering the characteristics and trends so far, it appears that Chiba Prefecture is a major producer of winter carrots. The fact that Chiba Prefecture recorded the largest shipping volume overall indicates that it is a major source of winter carrots. This is due to Chiba Prefecture’s geographical conditions, advances in agricultural technology, and good access to markets. Additionally, total shipment volume was 216kt, suggesting relatively stable demand. This may indicate that winter carrots are a common food ingredient and that demand is consistent. In the future, producers and other related parties will need to keep a close eye on market trends, as shipping volumes are likely to fluctuate due to changes in demand and weather conditions.
