Looking at trends in central wholesale markets for vegetables in Japanese agriculture, the key data for root vegetables as of December 2022 is interesting. In terms of quantity, radish recorded the highest volume at 40.7kt, indicating high demand. On the other hand, in terms of price, carrots had the highest value at 3.67 million yen, reflecting their high demand and value due to their quality. In terms of price, bamboo shoots have the highest price at 2,680 yen/kg, establishing themselves as a high added value vegetable. These data show that there is high demand for root vegetables, with high added value vegetables such as carrots and bamboo shoots in particular occupying an important position in the market. These trends reflect changing demand trends in Japan’s agriculture industry and consumer preferences.
